Science Teacher Spotlight: Mrs. Haslam started her teaching career here at Fairfield Jr. High.  This is her 9th year teaching Earth Science and second year advising Yearbook. When she’s not teaching she’s working in her garden and hanging out with her chickens. She loves to hike, snowshoe, paddle board and go to the gym. But let’s be honest, her favorite thing to do is binge a Netflix series and dream of being a homesteader and getting more chickens . 😄 A fun fact about Mrs. Haslam was she was actually a theater major the first time she went to college. She loved everything about performing, so hamming up her lessons and dressing up for science class is a nod to her past life. One of her favorite vacations was to her home state of California. Monterey Bay and the Redwoods are close to where she grew up. Her next favorite was biking the Hiawatha trail with the Hellewells this summer.

Fairfield Junior High Science Month Teacher Spotlight: Nikki Hellewell and her husband Chris both became junior high teachers four years ago. They love not only having the chance to work with these young people, but they especially love having summers and other breaks off. They use that time to travel to visit their three awesome grandkids in Georgia and their other amazing grandson in Cache Valley. When Nikki isn't teaching science and STEM, she is recovering from teaching science and STEM by watching TV (from football to Hallmark movies), crocheting and knitting, and reading. She loves cycling, paddleboarding, and pretends to like going to the gym really early in the morning. Nikki is so grateful she gets to work at Fairfield with great kids and even greater faculty and staff.

Students were asked to create a pin wheel in STEM to determine the best design to spin the fastest. These girls went above and beyond and made an overly large pin wheel that actually spins. Next week they will modify their designs and make windmills to generate electricity. Thank you to Mrs. Hellewell for planning a fun and engaging learning activity for your students.

Fairfield Junior High Science Month Teacher Spotlight: Mrs. Taylor Some of your hobbies/interests: I enjoy growing herbs and vegetables. I like to attend art productions. And I like home improvement projects. Career Information: This is my 10th year teaching Junior High Science. My Bachelor's Degree is in Biology, and I have a Master's Degree in Secondary Education. In college I worked for a Science professor in a Lab, and I still use what I learned there in my classroom. I love the 7th grade curriculum (Physics, Geology, Biology, Genetics) and I like teaching Integrated Science because I get to teach different topics. I love what I teach! A fun fact: I have a sand collection with sand from 60 different beaches around the world. I did not personally collect them all; people bring me sand from their vacations. Favorite vacation: My family and I went to Topaz Mountain in Southern Utah. We got to set the charge for a detonation on the side of the mountain. We excavated through the fresh rubble and found topaz gemstones. It's incredible to think about how long they had been in the rock!

Arts appreciate Month at FFJH and we would like to recognize: Mrs. Groneman is in her 6th year of teaching, and loves being able to spread the joy of music to others! She graduated from Utah State University (go Aggies!) where she served as a Drum Major and Pep Band Director during her time there. She loved performing in and leading various wind ensembles, woodwind quintets, etc. Her efforts in music has allowed her to travel to various locations all over the country, including Disneyland 😉 When she isn't making music with her classes you can find her nerding out with a good book, playing video games, and building lego sets. She loves to cross stitch, watch a good movie, or dominate at board games with her family. If you stop by Mrs. Groneman's office, you'll see she is a Guinness World Record holder. You'll have to guess what the award is for though!

Fairfield Junior High Arts Month would like to recognize Mrs. Clark (Choir) Mrs. Clark is the choir teacher at Fairfield Jr. High. This is her 6th year at FFJH and her 16th year of teaching. Mrs. Clark graduated from Utah State University (Go Aggies!). She has 3 awesome kids and 1 awesome husband (who just happens to be the best accompanist). Mrs. Clark loves to sing, act, bake, and read. She also enjoys working with power tools. Her favorite vacation is any trip involving the ocean, a beach, lots of sunshine and good food. Mrs. Clark believes that almost everything in life can be made better with music- especially singing.

Fairfield Junior High Arts Month would like to recognize Mr. Nolan (Everything Art) I have been in education for over 27 years. With 26 of those years being at Fairfield Junior High. where I have taught Art and Photography. As well as coaching Track and Field. I love to travel the world to experience different cultures and cuisines. Some of my favorite cities that I have visited have been London, Paris, Berlin, Athens, and Rome. But some of the most beautiful places I have visited have been the National Parks right here in Utah. I like to stay busy. When I am not working or traveling you will find me attending music concerts, visiting museums, enjoying the outdoors while hiking with my dog, or drawing and painting in my studio. One fun fact is that I have a closet full of t-shirts for every concert I attend and for every new place I visit.
